QSI International School of Dili, a non-profit institution opened in September 2005, offers a high quality education in the English language for children three (3) years through seventeen (17) years of age. The school is housed in a brand new, fully air conditioned building conveniently located behind the Australian Embassy and has a large playground with a landscaped yard. The facility is conducive to small class size and individualized attention for which the QSI schools are known. Internet access and computers are provided for all grade levels for purposes of technology instruction, research and communications.
The school's educational philosophy, which includes a personalized approach to instruction, leads to teaching for mastery. We believe in success for all students. We seek to create a positive learning environment since we believe a child learns more if he enjoys his learning experience.
THE
PRIMARY PURPOSE of the school is to provide a quality education to meet the needs of the children of the international community working in East Timor who require this type of education. The desired result is that the students will continue their education in their home countries or other posts with a minimum of adjustment problems upon leaving East Timor and QSI Dili. This program is also offered to East Timorese students who seek a solid education delivered in English. The school recognizes that many of the students are enrolled for only two or three years and have diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
THE
CURRICULUM includes English (reading, grammar, composition, keyboarding, handwriting, speaking, and spelling), Mathematics, Cultural Studies (history and geography), Science (physical, life, and earth), Art, Music, Computers, and Physical Education. Intensive English classes are offered to students who need additional help with the English language. The school also seeks to provide students with an appreciation for the culture and history of East Timor. Materials and equipment are up to date and of high quality. Textbooks are loaned to the students without charge. Class sizes are small. Native English-speaking, credentialed, experienced teachers deliver the curriculum. |
